It’s a new year.

Inspiration Jan 5, 2015

Can you believe it’s 2015?! Where is time going in such a hurry? I feel like I wasn’t even done evolving through 2014 yet and here we are in 2015… it’s exciting but if you’re anything like my friends and I you may be feeling a little overwhelmed.  Most of my friends didn’t even have their minds in the right place to be coming up with a list of resolutions for 2015.  If you feel like I’m talking about you, here’s a little post that may help.

At the end of every year I like to look back and reflect on what I’ve been through.  I sit down and think about:

my 10 favorite memories from the year

10 things I wish I had done

5+ goals I achieved

3+ ways in which I failed

a habit I broke

a habit I picked up

something new i learned

somewhere new i went

And then I clear the list and reset.

10 things I plan to do this new year

5+ goals I plan to achieve

3+ ways I plan to succeed (these 3 successes are usually a result of the 5+ previously mentioned goals)

a habit I will make

a habit I will break

something new I will learn

somewhere new I will go

I find that this little exercise (done alone or with friends) really helps to provide clarity and perspective to wrap up the year gone by and prepare me for the year ahead.  This is how I usually determine what my goals, dreams, & resolutions will be in the new year.  This exercise helps me to prepare goals with more heart and intention.  When your heart is your compass you’re more likely to head in the right direction with enthusiasm.  Typically, I like to pick just one resolution- keep an eye out for my next post- but if you’re struggling to find a few of your own, here are some suggestions:

  •  Release what no longer serves you.
  •  Live less out of habit and focus on intent.
  •  Live a life that serves your highest self.
  •  Look for the good in others instead of focusing on the bad.
  •  Be OK with not being OK.
  •  Look in the mirror and like what you see.
  •  Be kind to yourself when you’re learning something new.
  •  Be OK with not knowing. Learn to love the journey.
  •  Trust the journey.
  •  Let love guide you.
  •  Be here now.
  •  Take care of your body, it’s the only one you get.
  •  Stop rushing things that need time to grow.
  •  Know the difference between giving up and knowing when you’ve had enough. Let enough be enough.
  •  Travel to that place you keep thinking about. It’s in your heart for a reason.
  •  Trust yourself more.
  •  Use your time and energy wisely.
  •  Let go of who you think you are so you become who you want to be.
  •  Cultivate the habit of being grateful.
  •  Don’t worry about how your life looks. Instead, focus on how it feels.
  •  Invite your inner child out to play daily.
  •  Start each day with goals.
  •  Let yourself be you.
  •  Stop trying so hard to get to where you think you should be and see you are exactly where you need to be.
